Things I Love Wednesday 30th April - special wednesday web edition!

+ some photos from my new Nikon D80 at my photosteam here (including this pretty rose shot taken by my husband)

+ the idea of a community farm. not needing a supermarket = win. (found via In A Nutshell - hi Allison!).

+ Goodreads. i'm thinking this might be quite helpful for Book Club. (also found via Allison).

+ sharing wonton noodle soup with my husband then introducing him to gyoza and both getting very excited about all the food we're going to consume in Japan.

+ dreaming about all the wonderful lenses i could use with my new camera.

+ mazes. i used to be obsessed with Rolf Heimann's books when i was a kid. and the final Triwizard Tournament task in The Goblet of Fire scares the crap out of me. i have never been in a big hedge maze but one day i will, i'm sure of it!

+ kikki.K's bird range. too cute! my sister gave me the bird pen for my birthday (along with my very first Moleskine - yay). thanks Jen xoxox

+ this Melbourne cutie. i am inspired! (and i need to get me a folio website).

... ok, this will be my last post for a while! i'm heading over to Japan tomorrow for three whole weeks of ramen, craft books and temples. sayonara!

i like numbers

one morning a couple of years ago i took some photos of found numbers. numerals, like letters, have a nice charm to them when viewed en masse.

incidentally, my favourite number is six and i like even numbers better than odd.

now, while on the topic of photography, i have some exciting news. i bought a dSLR today, a Nikon D80. i have been saving up for this for a while and i am very, very excited. i have just a week and a half to learn enough about using it so that i can take some snaps in Japan. wish me luck!

free + pretty

i like free things. and i like pretty things. and i like to be inspired. so i really like Dover Publications' regular emails in my inbox, telling me that they've got nice image samples for me to download and use how i like. it's mostly quite small res but would be good for small scale projects. if nothing else, it's just nice to have more inspiration. i particularly like the vintage textile patterns which i just downloaded now. see above for an example!

sprouts + cups

i really like Brussels sprouts. who knew? for so many years i just didn't think to eat them. but now i love the little suckers. tonight i had them blanched with lots of freshly squeezed lemon juice and salt and pepper. yum!

last night for dinner we had a spinach and walnut frittata with ratatouille on the side. tonight we used the leftover ratatouille to make little pastries, served with some broccoli and carrots and the aforementioned Brussels sprouts. so there you go. some nice, healthy vegetarian meal ideas for when you're next stuck!

here's a picture of some cups. why not?

p.s. it is my birthday/Swan Lake day on monday. exciting!

Things I Love Thursday 3rd April 2008

Tim as Huck Finn (a photo from our camping trip over Easter)

guess what? i'm sick. i have a cold... only it's worse than a cold. not quite a flu. i'm not sure. anyway! here's a few  things which have made me happy lately.

...ok. time for more vitamins. be good everyone (not just Tanyas).

new shoes of periwinkleness

these are my new shoes. they're periwinkle. which is really just a delighful word, isn't it?

and this is a Polyvore set inspired by my new shoes. despite the colour difference on screen, those earrings are pretty much the perfect shade! but i was surprised at how few periwinkle items are available on Polyvore. maybe the fact that it reminds people of the colour of old ladies' blue rinse hair has something to do with it...

gluten free blueberry pancakes for breakfast, please.

do you like pancakes? i bet you do. i made these for Tim on saturday morning, using this recipe (except i used cow's milk not soy). there's not much sugar in the recipe so i sprinkled some on top, plus we added maple syrup. and natural yoghurt. and blueberries. mmm yes.
the only thing i didn't like was that you could really taste the olive oil... and we only had extra virgin! ew. next time i will use butter (the original recipe is dairy free but i was more in it for the gluten free-ness).
